Working with The Government to Effect Change-2012-2013

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 20.43.06In an attempt to disseminate the message of the importance of body image in order to help the next generation we must begin early on to prevent problems later.  The most effective way to do that is to intervene at an early enough stage.  I have become involved on a political level and alongside Dr. Susie Orbach, have attended 4 separate meetings at Westminster, attempting to have approval of a Mother and Baby pilot program within the NHS.  The first meeting was in June 2012 with the Honorary Lynn Featherstone and Anne Milton MP who were very supportive of the program but a reshuffle of placements created delays.

The next meeting was with Tara Kaufman, head of Women’s Engagement, Government for Equalities Office, and the head of The Royal College of Midwives to continue the conversation around training the midwives and Health visitors about body awareness and confidence in the pre/post natal period.

Through these meetings we hope to work with the government to effect positive change in society when it comes to the way we see Body Image.
